My New Theory

I watched The Chronicles of Narnia both Friday and Saturday night, and it was worth it! I rarely go to see movies on opening weekends, but this an exception to the rule. I have loved those books since I first read them as a young child with my mother and seeing them on the big screen gave me goose bumps. Yes, I know, watching the same movie two nights in a row is a little overboard; however, I was able to appreciate the little details that I wouldn't have otherwise the second time.

Thus, here is my new theory: see outstanding movies twice in, let's say, twenty-four hours to get the full experience if you really enjoy the movie the first time around.

This week should be good. Tomorrow, I am singing at a National Women's Business Convention to represent North Hills, so I get out of class at about 10:40. Tuesday, our Mock Trial team is scrimmaging Creek View, so I'll be let out early then too.

That Texas Weather

There are certain things I love about living in Texas. For example, the insane weather! Let's see, last Saturday, it was about eighty degrees out, and today, school was canceled due to icy roads. It was really nice to have the day off and I feel like I've gotten a few things accomplished that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Currently, I'm finishing my Vanderbilt application. Finishing the rest of my applications should be fairly simple because I am using the same essays for each one by tweaking them enough to answer the allotted prompt.

Tomorrow will be good too. Statistics, History and Biology and then Mock Trail practice. Then I'll go home for a bit before heading out to Lewisville for voice lessons (that were canceled yesterday because of the "winter storm warning.") After which I'll meet my mom at the Kids' Branch Volunteer Christmas party. I have the coolest Friday night life ever. All those drugs and alcohol make them worthwhile!

I don't get off for Christmas until Thursday the 22nd, so I have a ways to go. I'm not worried about finals though, because they should be doable. My family and I will pretty much leave for Florida right after that. We're driving, so the time on the road will be long and full of movies on the laptop. I can't wait to see Ky and my little girl cousins. Their names and Emilee and Erika and they are truly precious.

Goodnight!

Christmas Chaos

Hey guys!

So this past week has been busy to say the least. When I am time-crunched, I know that more than ever I should be spending time with God, alhtough I fail a lot. Organizing fundraisers for the National Honors Society is a hassle (even though I am glad to do it) and I really need to start delegating more! I think I have trust issues because, in the past, I have counted on people who didn't follow through with what they told me they would do. I enjoy being President, but I am definitely learning all about leardership the hard way. Oh well. Also, between Mock Trial, voice, student-teaching, and piano, my after-school time is fairly taken up.

Anyway, now that I have rambled on for a bit, I'll change the subject slightly. My holiday schedule is quickly booking up and I am already counting the days to the end of the semester, when finals will be over and I will be on the road to Florida. Yes, Florida. (Ky has the National Skydiving competition and can't come home for Christmas, so we're going there instead.) I don't know how comfortable I am with watching my brother jump out of a perfectly good helicopter/airplane though. I do have to say that he is mostly safe because they are well-trained and ready for the action. Plus, he loves the thrill every time (almost 100 jumps now)!

As for the college search, here is the updated list and where I am at in the application process (I know this is not necessary information, but it will help me to write it down, and this is as good of a place as any):

-Pepperdine complete, except I still need Jaron to do a video of me for the Won By One audition
-U of Oklahoma still need to send in the Native American form and the past coursework form
-Abilene C complete
-Texas C complete
-A&M finish the on-line Texas Common Ap
-Vassar finish the Common Ap
-NYU finish their on-line app.
-Vanderbilt finish filling out the paper app.

I have all of the other stuff like teacher recs, transcripts and scores sent out, so I need to hurry up and finish before the break. Then I can enjoy Christmas!

Well, I need to write a TOK paper and read and analyze another Plath poem for English. I can't decide whether or not I like that poet yet. Tell me what you think if you've read some of her work. Oh, and give me some advice as to which of the eight colleges you would pick for me--that is, assuming I am accepted.

Thanks,

Laura
