Weekend Update

I suppose I should post something. Mock Trial has been taking up most of my free time, but I hope and pray that it will be well worth it. Believe it or not, I am going to play a retired U.S. Army Colonel (54 years old) for the defense. I was a lawyer on both plaintiff and defense last year and for most of this year, but we needed an experienced witness, because the lawyers on cross can be tricky. I like the case, but will be relieved if--and when…--we go to nationals because then we will have a murder case instead of a semi-boring negligence suit.

I really wasn't interested much in becoming a lawyer before, but now I am thinking about it more seriously. I would also love to be a teacher, but that might not work out if I don't marry someone who can support that. Mock Trial gave me an insight into law and a good head start if I choose to go down that road. However, a lot of things like graduating high school, moving away and undergrad take priority for now. I don't know what to do with this summer, when I finally do get my "life" back. I hope I'll be able to return to Honduras, because I've missed the kids so!

All of my college applications are finished, and now I just have to wait. Apparently, I am not very patient because I check the mailbox everyday, waiting for some news. I have received a “yes” from two so far--and I am glad about them--but they are not so much on the top of my list.

Last weekend was good. My Aunt who recently returned from China (she is a prof. there) came over to visit and give us little Chinese gifts. I went to see End of the Spear with my mother and I cried so much. My mom and I both recommend the movie. My mom actually has some interesting ties to the movie and, since I'm lazy, I'll just paste in what she put in an e-mail to her friends about it:

"When I lived in Ecuador in the late ‘70’s, I boarded with a family who worked for a Christian radio ministry (Back to the Bible) involved in the ongoing work w/ native tribes, including the Waodani.

"At that time, I had no idea how important this work was – even though I had dinner at very cottage where one of the missionary couples lived in preparation for their work in the jungle, where one of the native women, Dayuna, worked as a household servant and learned her Spanish, even when I was introduced to Marj Saint, one of the widows.

"Even though this amazing story was right under my nose, and at least one of the main players right before my very eyes, I failed to see it!"

This was back before she was really following the Lord, and she and I hope that hearts will be softened with this loving story of faith and forgiveness. Saturday, I had Mock Trial practice (surprise, surprise) before going to Jen’s 18th birthday party. We went to the Door in Fort Worth to see one of her friend’s bands play. It was fun, but things got crazy when I was driving in the storm with 6 people in my 4 passenger Jimmy. God kept us safe despite it all. It even hailed on us at one point!

Now that you’re sound asleep, I’ll say “goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow.” Sorry this is so long; I guess I just had a lot to say.

P.S. I just discovered the true meaning of the word "wazoo" today. Please do the world a favor and look up the word before you use it again. I used to use "wazoo" out the wazoo, but know I know better. I won't tell you what it means, so, if you don't know, look it up. It's more fun this way, trust me!

Laura's Current Events ...or semi-current anyway

So this is my first post post-Christmas break. Florida was fun. Got up super early to see Ky compete in accuracy, two-way and style. Ky did well in all three categories, winning two bronze and one silver metal out of all of the novice divers. I tanned a little sitting out at the dinky airport for over eight hours a day and had fun hanging out with Ky's Cadet friends. Except for Dirty Joe.

Anyway, the routine in Texas is back in full swing and I can't wait till this semester is over! My course load, mock trial practice and other junk keep me busy for sure. This summer is going to be so great and relaxing.

Please pray for my granddaddy. He's having major surgery in a week, and he will need to recover quickly as he is still a full-time vet.

Well, I still have a chapter on the Cold War to get through tonight. At least I like the subject...
