Pepperdine it is!

Just wanted to let you all know that on August 28th of this year, I will be starting classes in Malibu, CA! My parents and I did the final paperwork for Pepperdine with me tonight, and I feel like the monkey of "decision" is finally off of my back.

Thank you for your general support and/or advice on this subject for the past few months!

I hopped in the shower and turned on the radio right after we finished the online confirmation, and the lyrics really hit home to me:

Some bright morning when this life is o'er,
I'll fly away; To that home on God's celestial shore,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

Chorus: I'll fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away; (in the morning)
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

Just a few more weary days and then,
I'll fly away;
To a land where joys will never end,
I'll fly away.

Besides the dying part, the song reminds me that although the last month of school will be hectic and hard, I'll be in heaven, a.k.a. Pepperdine, soon!

Lacrosse, anyone?

Lacrosse
n: a game invented by American Indians; now played by two teams who use long-handled rackets to catch and carry and throw the ball toward the opponents' goal

The lacrosse coach at Pepperdine contacted me about two days ago to see if I was interested in joining the team (no experience necessary). I'm seriously considering it because the coach said he would scholarship me for training this summer and that the team flies to Hawaii for a tournament in the fall. So, all I need to do now is figure out what lacrosse actually is. As you can see, I already took the first step by looking it up in the dictionary.

I need to get some sleep!

Prom, etc.

I only have the Polaroid keychain picture from prom Saturday for now. (Notice the stupid photographer's fingerprint on the upper right.) I haven't been able to take the other photos to get developed yet... Pretty much, Leslie and I had fun getting ready and the food was okay, but I'm glad I borrowed a dress from a friend instead of buying one.

This week has been a breeze considering it is only 3 and 1/2 days long for me. (I have a half-day tomorrow and then no school Friday.)

Friday, even though I have off, I'm putting up my art show for its ten day duration at U of Dallas. I still need to mount a ton of photos before then! Saturday, I'll be going to Six Flags because a guy I know who works for a local radio station gave me six tickets! Oh, and there will also be a Mercy Me concert there too. I don't know exactly what the plans are with the family for Easter, but I know that there will be food wherever we end up.

As far as my college choice goes, I got the official financial aid package from Pepperdine now and my top two choices are Pepperdine and TCU. (I've already gotten the financial aid thing from TCU.) Pepperdine is still (obviously) more expensive even with the scholarship. I have until May 1st to decide, but I'd like to know before then just so I can be done with the whole thing. Let me know if you have any advice/input.

OK, comment if you can, but otherwise have a great rest of the week. Happy Easter!

I just remembered! Two more crazy things happened to me last Friday. One, my rearview mirror melted off the windshield as I pulled out of the school parking lot. I think I use the mirror like I'm supposed to because I was freaked out on the way home. Two, I was driving the Audi home from babysitting at about midnight (since my car didn't have a rearview mirror) and a cop pulled me over right as I was thinking, Ha! That popo can't touch me because I'm going the speed limit and have my seatbelt on! I had accidentally put the high beams on while using the turn signal and, apparently, I blinded the cop. I cried, and he actually apologized for pulling me over! Good times.

Good Grief

Sometimes, I don’t know where my head is. A week ago Wednesday, I locked my keys in the car at the dance studio. My dad had to come and rescue me. Now, I’m pretty good about laughing at the stupid things I often do, so I repeated the story to another instructor at the studio. She said she had outdone me the time she locked her keys in the car with the car still on. We both laughed. This was yesterday.

Today, my friend Jenifer and I were going to Ulta and I was almost late for an appointment. I hopped out of the car and pushed the lock button on the door. You guessed it! The car was still on! Jen and I had a good laugh, and my mom had to come let me in. On top of that, it was pouring down rain!

The lesson I learned: I’m dumb sometimes. Before last Wednesday, I had never done that, but apparently things can change.

As for serious things, I’m still waiting to get the official Financial Aid packages from Pepperdine and Vanderbilt. NYU is off the list because they were the most expensive on my list and, although they did give me a scholarship, it would have been more expensive than some other choices I have (Pepperdine!). Next Thursday, Pepperdine is having a reception here in Dallas. I am so excited!

Prom is this Saturday too. I’m going with my best friend, Leslie, and we should have a blast! A bunch of my classmates and I will be getting ready together on Saturday afternoon. What I’m the most excited about is driving the Audi, though! I love that car.

Have a great rest of the week,
Laura
